Activating Windows XP after support has ended

So, although I am a Linux-user (since CrunchBang is no longer supported, I switched to BunsenLabs), from time to time I have to do some testing on a Windows-system.

The only OS that I have a genuine installation from, is a Windows XP CD that I once found lying next to a discarded desktop. The installation still works perfectly, the product key is all there, but as well know: Windows XP is no longer supported and after 30 days, you need to activate the copy by internet or phone (which is no longer possible).

Still, there is a solution:

(bron: deredactie.be)

Unrest marks Tunisia revolution anniversary event

Protesters have thrown stones and tomatoes at Tunisian leaders at a ceremony marking two years since the start of an uprising that changed regimes around the Arab world. (The Miami Herald, December 17 2012; deredactie.be, December 17 2012)

It is indeed two years ago that Mohamed Bouaziz, a street vendor set himself on fire, to protest the regime of president Zine El Abidine Ben Ali. This sparked demonstrations that spread around Tunisia and several Arab countries, known as the Arab Spring.

(deredactie.be, 14 december)

10th November 2012: TEDx UHasselt

Yesterday I got an email informing me that I am one of the 500 lucky people that will be attending TEDx UHasselt on November 10th in my old university. It will be interesting to travel back in time and sit once again in the aula's where I have spent many hours a decade ago.

I am especially looking forward to the talks of Juergen Schmidhuber (Artificial Intelligence), Marc Buelens & Nele Snoeck (Organisational Behaviour) and Anders Sandberg (Ethics on "human enhancement").

Hope to see you htere!

Brian May built his own guitar with his dad

Although I am a big fan of his musical skills and this is a video clip of 20 years ago, I had no idea that Brian May had built his guitar with his father.

Wow.

Haven't played it in 10 years

from Muzikum!from Amazon

After this week's '5 of 91' from StuBru, I have also rediscovered two albums I probably haven't played for 10 years: Talking Timbuktu (from Ali Farka Touré and Ry Cooder) and Much Against Everyone's Advice (from the Belgian Soulwax).

Twilight Zone Robotics

taken from Wikipedia
Ah, I rediscovered the joy of watching The Twilight Zone, perfect to conclude a long evening shift at the hotel!

"Steel" is, in my humble opinion, not the best episode, but it is interesting: the story, written in 1963, is about "the future year of 1974" (*snigger*) and the interesting part is how they predict the evolution in robotics by that time.

Starry Starry Night

Orion, taken from Ethan

Starry, starry night.
Paint your palette blue and gray,
Look out on a summer's day,
With eyes that know the darkness in my soul.
Shadows on the hills,
Sketch the trees and the daffodils,
Catch the breeze and the winter chills,
In colors on the snowy linen land.

-- Don Mclean

I admit it, I don't know sh** about stars or constellations, but there is something about it that makes me want to lay down and just look up, trying to make sense of it all or just enjoy the light show, the beautiful painting in the sky.

iPad and iPhone track where you've been

by Zazzle

This CNET article reminds me of the time that it became known that Internet Explorer also tracks all the websites and search items you've ever visited or typed in, even if you would empty the 'history'.
I am still searching for that exact item, it must have been in the late nineties. Edit: found it.

A small and very short break in my French correspondence as I want to make note of this beautiful article by Joel Alas: "Europe's longest ice road".

Let's kick it!

L'ambition et le désir

C'est bon, rêver
