Updating Firefox when Bunsenlabs (Debian) refuses

Soooo, Slack announced months ago that, starting from March 1st 2023, it will no longer support Firefox version 91 and below.

I knew this, and planned to update way ahead of time, but.... you know. It is never urgent enough until the day is there (or even passed).

Problem is: apt refuses to upgrade my preferred browser and I have been stuck at 91-esr for months now.

 

I don't know if it is Debian its choice, or if my favourite flavour Bunsenlabs is forcing this (probably because I haven't upgraded to Beryllium yet), result is: I got to find a way around this.

Now here is what I did, it works for me but it might not be the best solution so suggestions are welcome:

Dan Nanni posted an interesting read on monitoring system temperature in Linux (Modulo.com). Previous laptops of mine had problems with overheating , probably due to the fact of bad air circulation and the hot climate in Ghana, but still I couldn't pinpoint the problem for sure.

Once back in Europe, with my second hand ThinkPad, got solved. So no more complaining.

How to stay sane while using "sane": Scanning and printing under CrunchBang

Well, now that I am back in Belgium I bought myself a second hand Thinkpad X61 from Pro Used Computers, and of course installed good old CrunchBang Statler on it.

Today I am installing the multifunction Canon Pixma MP510 on my little machine, simply because I need some scanning to be done.

For all the other Debian-lovers out there, may be a quick overview on how to install the print and scan functions for easy use:

After trying out the CrunchBang LiveCD and finding a solution to display Japanese fonts, I have decided to switch operating system and install CrunchBang on this laptop.

I am actually typing this entry on the same laptop during the installation.

Aha, I finally found the time to try out the new CrunchBang Linux 10 "Statler".

While I have been active on an ICT education project in Ghana, many times we had to survive with "ancient hardware", literally computers that were holding their last breath. Thanks to CrunchBang's low usage of resources, I was able to perform miracles and could transform older material in Internet ready computers.
